Nigeria Federal Government Set To Launch Buhari Mobile App

Last Updated on 10 December, 2016

A lot has been happening since President Buhari came into power. Quite a lot has also been happening with the Tech sector lately. A lot that I initially choose not to talk about.

First, is the fact that FG was said to urge NCC to increase Data prices in Nigeria. Although this was initially portrayed to begin effect on the 1st of December, 2016, it didn’t come to limelight. However, we haven’t seen the end of it as reports still has it that the motive is in works.

Secondly, reports had it that MTN is discussing with authorities to barn use of WhatsApp and Viber in Nigeria. This is because, they believe the use of those apps are affecting their sales. Imagine!

Now, reports has it that the Nigerian Federal Government is planning on launching a app known as buhari mobile app.

Okay, buhari mobile app isn’t exactly what the name of the app is. People just choose to call it that way.
The app is being referred to as an information dissemination application. And basically, the app is intended to give reports to citizens in real time, what the Government is doing to help the country.

This was disclosed by the minister of information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in Abuja on Thursday, December 8, at a meeting with Resident information Officers (RIOs) in the ministry.

By the way, the formal name said to be given to the app, is Federal Government Information App (FGIAPP). Not Buhari Mobile App that people choose to call it.

5 Things to Know About Buhari Mobile App
These are the top 5 things you should know about the mobile application.

The Buhari Mobile App will be launched on the 15th of December in Abuja.
It will help Nigerians monitor the activities of the present Government Led by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The app will be visible on hand held devices. I like to think thats why it’s called a ‘Mobile’ app after all.
The app will put an end to the misrepresentation and determination of falsehood on activities the buhari-led government.
With the app, you can get to know what’s happening in Nigeria from anywhere in the world.
Unfortunately, the app won’t give you real time report of Exchange Rate. Neither will it curb the inflation of commodities in the country. Sorry.

While this isn’t exactly a bad idea, how do they expect Nigerians to spend data on using an additional app if prices of data will be increased? Huh! In this buhari regime!!!

Besides, reporting on the proposed data saga, NCC choose to call it ‘Data Floor‘. According to the regulatory commission, they plan on introducing a data floor because they fear the price war could lead to a monopoly in the Telecom industry thus forcing small operators to shut down.

Please, we all know GLO offers perhaps, the cheapest data plans in the country right now. But, have you stopped using your Airtel, MTN or etisalat?

Personally, I have been using nTel monthly unlimited data for months now despite the fact that GLO is cheaper. So, why exactly do they need to introduce a data floor? Who says competition isn’t good for the market? And who says the sky isn’t big enough for every bird
