I have been using the Huawei P9 Lite as the primary device for the past two weeks, and I must say the experience got me feeling like this:
That is me in the middle.
Although the Huawei P9 Lite packs some basic specs, the experience you get using the device is great thanks to the Huawei effect. Here is a look at the specs:

THE HUAWEI P9 LITE REVIEW
HOW FAST DOES IT BOOT?
It took about 23 seconds to power on the Huawei P9 Lite, which is rather impressive.
Powering off took longer, though, about 6 seconds.
The results saw the Huawei P9 Lite topping the table.
DISPLAY
The Huawei P9 features a 5.2-inch FHD display. The 424ppi on its small screen ensures that the output is gorgeous, and more than enough for getting rich-colored and sharp images.
Maximum brightness is quite strong, making it superb to use in outdoor scenes
Typical of a Huawei device, you can further tweak the color temperature to suit your eyeball’s tastes to make it look warmer or cooler.
Overall, the Huawei P9 Lite’s display is splendid for its price!
No complaints whatsoever.
THE EMUI FOR THE GIRLS DEM
If you have used a Xiaomi device, then the Huawei EMUI skin shouldn’t be a complete stranger. The P9 Lite comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Huawei’s EMUI 4.1 skin on top, which offers a different user experience. You don’t get your app drawer. Instead, all apps live on the home screen.
Also, the notification shade has been changed to a two-panel layout with a timeline-style listing of events.
While the overview of recently used apps is flat, sliding carousel of app images, rather than a vertical stack of apps.
If you take a look at the screenshot below, you can see exactly how the UI took over some aspect of the device.
One last thing I like about Huawei’s UI is the ability to customize your on-screen navigation buttons to suit your taste.
BLOATWARE
The Huawei P9 Lite does come with some bloatware that takes up space, but they can all be uninstalled.
THE FINGERPRINT SCANNER EXPERIENCE
You get a fast and accurate fingerprint action on the P9 Lite.
I also loved the fact that it acts a button (Kinda similar to the Hot S) which can be customized to do just about anything from showing the notification panel, to answering a call.
AUDIO QUALITY?
The phone’s single speaker is quite loud, and the sound is reasonable considering it isn’t a front facing speaker. I compared the audio with that of the Galaxy S7. The results?
The Huawei P9 Lite was slightly louder.
HOW FAST DOES THIS CHARGE?
The Huawei P9 Lite doesn’t come with a fast charge feature, so charging the device usually takes about 2 hours plus. But it does charge quickly if you are trying to charge in short cycles, say from 10% to 30%.
HOW HOT DOES IT GET?
Despite the fact that it is an all-metal device, it doesn’t get overly hot like most devices in its specs department (It does get quite warm, though).
Check out a test of me playing several games including FIFA 16 for about 40 minutes with the WiFi, Bluetooth and Flashlight switched on, the brightness was also at the maximum.
WOULD THE 3000mAh BATTERY SUFFICE?
The battery’s stamina in the real world varies between decent and excellent, mainly depending on how much you use a 4G data connection. The CPU itself is efficient, but the demands of a trickling data connection used when, for example, playing heavy games for an extended period will bring the Huawei P9 Lite down to earth.

It drained 23% in 40 minutes.MULTITASKING?
Err, the 2GB RAM on the Huawei P9 Lite is good enough for running apps individually with no lags in sight, but running about 3 or more heavy games at the same time won’t give you that desired multitasking effect.
CONNECTIVITY
One setback on the P9 Lite is the fact that it has a hybrid SIM. To make up for this, Huawei first SIM is 4G LTE enabled (the other SIM isn’t), not only that, it connects to almost all the 4G-enabled SIM cards in Nigeria. You also have the MirrorShare and NFC connectivity
MIRROR ON THE WALL, WHO IS THE FAIREST OF THEM ALL?
You will be one of the fairest with the Huawei P9 Lite’s camera. As a matter of fact, I think the camera is one of its unique selling points. I loved how both cameras performed under different lighting conditions. There are also many modes including the Pro-mode.

When it comes to the selfie camera, instead of getting a front flash, Huawei is using the screen flash that does your selfies so much good.One last thing that you might like with the Huawei’s camera is the fact that it gives you a plethora of editing tools. One of which is the Splash mode that allows you to pick one color while eliminating the others, so your pictures come out looking like this:

ALL THE SIDE ATTRACTIONS

The P9 Lite also comes with some side attractions like the ability to watch a video while doing other things on your device.
Another is the fact that the P9 Lite generates a QR code for your contact.
There is the health mode for the fit fam addicts!
The ability to take scrolling screenshots just like the one on the Galaxy S7.
Plus, I love how the Huawei P9 Lite’s back isn’t prone to scratches or fingerprint stains.
It has other cool stuff, but these are the ones that caught my fancy.
FLAWS
Even though Huawei added a screen case, I would have appreciated an adequate glass protection to keep the scratches away.
I also noticed that it vibrates when you accidentally put the wrong finger on the fingerprint sensor (Not found a way to turn this off, yet).
UPDATE AND SENSORS
If there is one thing you’d get with the Huawei P9 Lite, it’s timely updates! I got about two updates during the duration of using the device.
Lastly, the Huawei P9 Lite is VR ready! It does support most of the sensors needed to make this happen!
BENCHMARKS
The P9 Lite’s HiSilicon Kirin 650 is a brand new processor that consists of an octa-core ARM Cortex A53 CPU. These eight cores are split into two groups of four cores running at different clock speeds: one set runs between 480 MHz and 1.7 GHz, the other cluster between 1.4 and 2.0 GHz. In everyday life, the Huawei P9 Lite is quick. Check out its benchmark results;
OVERALL
I think the Huawei P9 Lite does well to balance a premium look and feel with a mid-range price. The cameras, gorgeous display, user experience, processor and let’s not forget Timely updates make up for some of the few hiccups noticed.
